Tavarua’s
heartbeat.
We are honored to work alongside a beautiful group of people who embody the true spirit and heartbeat of Tavarua Island.
Bula Spirit
Anyone who has ever been to Tavarua will gladly tell you, despite its many draws, the real reason people return again and again are the Fijian people. Each person possesses a unique charm that creates a positive, happy and lighthearted environment for our guests.

Tavarua’s bright smiles and contagious laughs truly spark joy in those around them. Many times you’ll hear random bursts of laughing or singing throughout the island as they happily carry out daily duties. The Fijian people insert fun and humor into everything they do and guests have repeatedly shared that the real treasure they bring home with them is the big smiles and warm bula spirit from Tavarua.
Sharing Culture
Every Thursday night, Tavarua's staff host “Fiji Night” where they get to intimately share their Fijian culture with our guests. It’s a beautiful evening full of traditional Fijian songs, dance and cuisine.

Most of the island’s employees are related in some way. We’ve had many generations of families who aspire to work with us from the nearby villages of Cuvu, Momi, Nabila and Yako. Maintaining and embracing their cultural heritage, our team continues to pursue higher standards in hospitality and forge real and long lasting friendships with our guests.

How can I donate to the Fijian staff and their families?
+
ANSWER:
Any and all donations are greatly appreciated but not obligatory. Traditionally, guests have gifted items during our kava ceremony on Thursday night. Items might include things like: school supplies, clothing, slippers, toothbrushes, or sporting equipment. If you'd like to donate money, we have the Tavarua staff Christmas fund which is a tipping pool that's evenly distributed twice a year. Thank you for supporting our staff!
How do I purchase Kava for Fiji night?
+
ANSWER:
The easiest way is to inquire with our front desk once on island. They will be happy to help organize this for you!
What is "Fiji Night"?
+
ANSWER:
On Thursday night we celebrate Fiji or "Lovo" night for our staff to welcome guests in a traditional way. Tropical attire is encouraged but not mandatory. The island population comes together on a woven mat for a Fijian kava ceremony or “Sevu Sevu”. During the ceremony, guests have the option to make an offering or say a few words. We also celebrate by cooking underground in a “lovo” and serving local dishes followed by a “Meke” of singing and dancing with our Tavarua entertainment group. This experience will surely be a highlight of your week!
