Getting Here
How do I get from the airport to the island?
+
ANSWER:
An air-conditioned Tavarua Island bus and/or van will meet you at the airport and transport you to the boat launch. Most of our arrivals land early in the morning, so our transport team takes guests to a location for a rest/breakfast prior to heading for the boat launch. This breakfast is NOT included in your tour package. The ride usually takes a scenic 35 – 40 minutes traveling through family farms and sugar cane fields before arriving at the shore. Once at the launch, porters will load your boards and bags onto our island boats. It is a good idea to have on board shorts or beach clothing on as you may get wet. Reef shoes or slippers are also recommended. Depending on the tide, you will take a short walk (at times in shallow water) across a soft reef to board the boats. Helicopter transfers can also be arranged for an additional charge, please inquire with your booking agent for more information.
Do I need to bring or exchange money before coming?
+
ANSWER:
It’s always a good idea to have some cash on hand – but you do not have to exchange it. Prices on Tavarua Island are in US dollars, however, we accept all currencies. If you choose to take an excursion that requires cash, our office staff will gladly exchange currency for you.
What essentials do I need to bring?
+
ANSWER:
The sun is more powerful in Fiji so sun protection is key! Hats, sunglasses, sunscreen and a rash guard are highly recommended. As the typical weather is warm, casual loungewear, plenty of swimwear and a light rain jacket for afternoon wind and showers might come in handy. Many guests bring a lite board bag for surf transfer and a waterproof bag for the daily essentials. We also recommend a simple first aid kit to keep on hand. Our boutique carries most of the necessities should you forget anything. It’s recommended that serious enthusiasts bring their personal gear for activities that the island usually provides for. If these activities are your primary focus skateboards, tennis rackets and favorite snorkel gear are worth bringing along. The same thing applies with fishing.
What’s included in my booking fee?
+
ANSWER:
Your accommodation includes three freshly prepared meals a day as well as the use of resort amenities (kayaking, stand-up paddling, soft-tops, fishing, snorkel gear, fitness room, tennis court, half pipe) as well as boat rides to and from the surf breaks, snorkel excursions and island hopping. Your booking fee does NOT include ground transportation. This is a round-trip charge that includes porter service and will be added to your final on-island invoice. Other exclusions are purchases at the island bars, mini-bar, boutique, as well as spa services and island wifi. These items will be kept on a tab and subject to a 25% tax (VAT and STT). All island invoices will be paid in full prior to departure.
The Resort
What is the dress attire on Tavarua Island?
+
ANSWER:
The Fijian culture encourages conservative dress codes for locals. Women are almost fully clothed from head to toe and men usually wear 'sulus' or long skirts as this is the respectable and appropriate attire in the villages on the main island(s). While on vacation at Tavarua Island Resort, we ask that you be aware of these cultural dress norms. As the island offers a relaxed environment, we recommend casual resort wear during the day (swimwear, board shorts, coverups, tank tops, shorts, sandals, hats, and protective sun-wear). In the evenings, casual elegance is suggested. Options include summer dresses, skirts, and blouses for ladies and collared shirts and trousers for men. During mealtimes, we ask that ladies wear a beach coverup or sarong while in and around the dining area(s). Vinaka for understanding and respecting our beloved Fijian culture!
How do I tip?
+
ANSWER:
Tavarua has a “staff Christmas fund” which is a tip pool that is evenly distributed to the staff twice a year. You can organize this through the office upon checkout. You can also leave a tip for a particular staff member if desired. Cash and credit are accepted. Vinaka for supporting our staff!
What is "Fiji Night"?
+
ANSWER:
On Thursday night we celebrate Fiji or "Lovo" night for our staff to welcome guests in a traditional way. Tropical attire is encouraged but not mandatory. The island population comes together on a woven mat for a Fijian kava ceremony or “Sevu Sevu”. During the ceremony, guests have the option to make an offering or say a few words. We also celebrate by cooking underground in a “lovo” and serving local dishes followed by a “Meke” of singing and dancing with our Tavarua entertainment group. This experience will surely be a highlight of your week!
Do you have Wifi?
+
ANSWER:
Yes! We provide several WiFi packages available for hourly/daily/weekly use for one or multiple devices. Rates vary depending on which package you choose. Keep in mind that Tavarua Island is remotely located - we offer the best service currently available and will continue to upgrade as the technology and reliability improve. Please inquire at the front office.

+
