If you have questions about our dining, please review some of the commonly asked questions that we've collected here.
What is the dress attire on Tavarua Island?
+
ANSWER:
The Fijian culture encourages conservative dress codes for locals. Women are almost fully clothed from head to toe and men usually wear 'sulus' or long skirts as this is the respectable and appropriate attire in the villages on the main island(s). While on vacation at Tavarua Island Resort, we ask that you be aware of these cultural dress norms. As the island offers a relaxed environment, we recommend casual resort wear during the day (swimwear, board shorts, coverups, tank tops, shorts, sandals, hats, and protective sun-wear). In the evenings, casual elegance is suggested. Options include summer dresses, skirts, and blouses for ladies and collared shirts and trousers for men. During mealtimes, we ask that ladies wear a beach coverup or sarong while in and around the dining area(s). Vinaka for understanding and respecting our beloved Fijian culture!
How do I tip?
+
ANSWER:
Tavarua has a “staff Christmas fund” which is a tip pool that is evenly distributed to the staff twice a year. You can organize this through the office upon checkout. You can also leave a tip for a particular staff member if desired. Cash and credit are accepted. Vinaka for supporting our staff!
What is "Fiji Night"?
+
ANSWER:
On Thursday night we celebrate Fiji or "Lovo" night for our staff to welcome guests in a traditional way. Tropical attire is encouraged but not mandatory. The island population comes together on a woven mat for a Fijian kava ceremony or “Sevu Sevu”. During the ceremony, guests have the option to make an offering or say a few words. We also celebrate by cooking underground in a “lovo” and serving local dishes followed by a “Meke” of singing and dancing with our Tavarua entertainment group. This experience will surely be a highlight of your week!
Are coffee and smoothies from the bar included in the rate?
+
ANSWER:
We provide a fresh pot of medium roast drip coffee available throughout the day along with a selection of teas. Specialty coffees and smoothies from our bar are available for purchase upon request from the bartender.
I have kids, are there any snacks in between the 3 meals?
+
ANSWER:
We do provide a big bowl of fruit to snack from in between meals and serve appetizers prior to dinner. If you think you or your family might require more food, we offer smoothies from the Restaurant Bar for purchase and some light snacks in the boutique.
Is the kitchen able to accommodate dietary restrictions?
+
ANSWER:
Yes, our kitchen is happy to accommodate special dietary restrictions. Please let us know ahead of time by informing your booking agent and/or our front desk.
How do I access drinking water during my stay?
+

We have two water stations (one located in the restaurant and one by the boat shed) where you can fill up with our delicious chilled drinking water. If you forget a water bottle, we sell awesome Tavarua-branded Mizu bottles in the boutique.
Is the water safe to drink on Tavarua?
+
