Tavarua Island Resort (www.tavarua.com) is proud to announce, together with Volcom (www.volcom.com) and the ASP - Association of Surfing Professionals (www.aspworldtour.com) - the return of the ASP contest to Fiji and to the waves surrounding Tavarua - Cloudbreak and Restaurants. The event : titled the Volcom Fiji Pro is scheduled to take place next year from June 3-15.
Brad Dougherty, VP of Surf Marketing for Volcom said that they will be sponsoring the event for the next three years, with a $2 million USD per year budget and total prize money at $425,000USD with a first place prize of $75,000USD. There will be a local Fijian wild card entry into the event with the chance to compete against one of the top five surfers in the world and an additional $7000USD as the prize.
"There is a history of events that have been run here and that have been incredibly successful. The waves off Tavarua Island Resort, Cloudbreak and Restaurants are absolutely some of the best waves in the world," Mr. Dougherty said. This year the proceeds of the merchandise from the contest will be donated to the Loloma Foundation, giving back to the Fijian community.
Tavarua Island Resort and Volcom have a long standing relationship over the last 20 years. The Island is honoured to host the event and it promises to be well attended and well covered in all international media - with a live webcast that will be viewed by over 1.5 million people and live television broadcast on FuelTV Australia and Time Warner Cable in California and Hawaii - delivering the contest to another 20+ million homes.
